Many travelers overlook this part of the country for the glamorous Greek Islands, which are wonderful also. Travelers that have more than the usual 7 to 10 days vacation, or those that are coming back for a 2nd or more time, should consider spending time on the mainland.
Some of the highlights for visitors include the Peloponnese home to famous Olympia (known for the birthplace of the ancient Olympics), Epidavros (known for having the incredible acoustics and being the most preserved ancient theaters) and Sparta (for it’s powerful epicenter of ancient Greece with strong warriors) and Napfllio (a seaside paradise) among many other towns and villages. The monasteries of Meteora are a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 6 monasteries were built atop gigantic natural rock formations. This area impresses a wildly science fiction vibe with the landscape.
